Did you check the documentation of this BADI in SE18. There is a detailed documentaion available for this.
Further you can check CL_BUPA_IL_HEADER_SEARCH=>CHECKED_SEARCH_AVAILABLE what search helps value is returned and clearing this search help variable ev_shelpname for your customer fields may help sometimes.
